| Thermalastic 83C™ is an elastomer coating designed
to protect grouped cables against fire. This fire protection
is a Factory Mutual approved water based, high solids coating,
which is designed to prevent propagation of fire in grouped
electrical cables.
Thermalastic 83C™ contains no asbestos or Chlorinated hydrocarbons,
and meets all applicable OSHA and EPA regulations. Thermalastic
83C™ will not support combustion.
In most cases total protection of cables is recommended,
but in cases where this is not applicable for any reason,
there are some locations where is necessary to do so. This
way to protect is called “fire breaking”.
Fire breaks must be installed in sections where:
• Vertical trays pass through grated floors or other floor
penetrations where penetration fire seals are not practical.
• There are vertical and/or horizontal cable tray tees and
crosses.
• Cable trays run under grated floors where flammable materials
and trash collect.
• Long horizontal tray runs, particularly where stacked tray
conditions exist.
Thermalastic 83C™ Cable Coating is also one of the most economical
and maintenance-free ways to protect cables from fire in electrical
equipment, cable spreader and control rooms.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CONSIDER ELECTRICAL
DERATING ON CABLES PROTECTED WITH THERMALASTIC 83C.
